Hello and welcome to the sale of this lovely old Land Rover Tow Truck. This unrestored survivor has been in the hands of the previous garage owner for over 20 years, and has been used as a recovery truck for the garage and also for recovery at local hill climbing events. It been in light but continuous throughout it's life and has never been stood up for extended periods, which has certainly helped keep it up together. Whilst now Tax and MOT exempt, it has recently been recommissioned to MOT standard including but not limited to new rear springs and 5 new tyres. I cannot stress enough how lovely the six cylinder engine is in this truck- it fires up instantly and sounds sweet as a nut, beautifully smooth with no smoke and plenty of power. It really does sound like the preverbal sewing machine! The six pot was the only viable choice for these tow trucks back in the day, the four cylinders and diesels simply did not have enough power for the job. The rest of the drivetrain is just as sound, with positive feedback through all the controls and no excessive play, even by old Land Rover standards! It starts and stops very well indeed, pulls up straight and will cruise quite happily, if you are up for it! The interior trim is also very neat and tidy, with all three vinyl seats being in lovely condition, with seat belts. The obligatory red oxide paint adorns various parts of the doors and bulkhead, which whilst are not perfect, are very sound and serviceable and not in need of any immediate attention. The period switches on the dash for the exterior auxiliary lighting is a quaint addition. On the exterior, it features the standard hand painted finish that was found on all village tow trucks of the era. They tended to get painted in whatever was left over at the time! It's rough and ready, but that being said the panel work itself is actually very straight with no heavy damage. It certainly has a lovely patina and bags of character, just as an old Land Rover should! The original chassis is in very good condition as far as we can see, it has certainly had various repairs and patches done over the years but all appear to be to a good standard and presenting no issues today. As regards to the towing equipment, the manual crane appears to be in good working order, as does the rear work light and revolving amber beacon. It also has a conventional tow bar. It also features the appropriate 'towing' sign to the front, and I think it would look even better with some additional sign writing of your choice, but I will leave that up to you! To sum up, this is a very charming, complete, usable and above all authentic piece of British motoring history that is ready to jump in and enjoy. It would enhance any collection, can still earn it's keep and will certainly be a worthy attendee at this years shows!
