Hello and welcome to the sale of this stunning Ford Escort. Having covered just 66k miles with supporting paperwork to warrant the mileage, this car was registered new in the midlands area and has led a very easy life and clearly been very well cared for. The gleaming black paintwork is in fantastic condition with an incredibly deep shine, and has clearly had a high quality respray in recent years. However, this has clearly been done to simply keep the car looking fresh, as once under scrutiny there are no signs of accident damage or rust. In fact, there is zero indication that the car has ever been welded, with sills, arches, battery tray and all the other usual problem areas all remaining in factory condition. The alloy wheels are in excellent condition, and well shod with matching premium Pirelli tyres all round. All the glass and trims are in great condition, and under the bonnet is also extremely clean with nothing scruffy or out of place. Whilst in my possession I have treated the car to new rubber side mouldings, new Ford blue oval badges front and rear, and period dealer plates and stickers which really add detail. The simple, manually operated black vinyl roof is believed to be the original, with a few tiny marks and signs of age here and there but perfectly functional and entirely presentable. It has also had a good check over underneath, with nothing more than a new coolant bottle, a drive shaft oil seal and fresh brake fluid required and duly attended to. The grey cloth interior trim is in great order, clean and dry with no rips or tears to the seats and a neat and tidy dashboard with no damage or cracks. A fully functioning original Ford radio cassette is still present, along with a working electric aerial. The CVH 1.6 injection engine fires up straight away, and idles nicely and quietly, with no smoke and producing good power through the rev range. The 5 speed manual gearbox is slick in operation with a good clutch. On the road it handles very tight even for a cabrio of this age, with minimal wobbles, squeaks or knocks. It handles the corners well, and pulls up straight under braking. To sum up, this is an immediately useable, extremely well presented and very genuine unrestored, survivor example of this ever popular retro Ford, and I am sure the new owner will be as thrilled as we are with it! Part exchange considered, and nationwide delivery available.
