Hello and welcome to the sale of this superb Land Rover. Nearly 152,000 series 88" 2A Land Rovers were produced between 1961 and 1971. This is the 2559th one to leave the production line, making it a very early example, and likely it was manufactured late in 1961 before being registered in February 1962. It retains all it's original features distinguishing it as an earlier model including the chrome bezel headlights, flat front panel, metal spoke steering wheel, body coloured dash and much more. It even comes with the original radiator which is date stamped 1961. It also has a full set of matching genuine Lucas rear lamps which are often the first things to be lost and a nice detail for the Land Rover connoisseur! The chassis and bulkhead are original and whilst have of course received various repairs in the past no doubt come MOT time, are in very sound condition with no immediate concerns, The rest of the mechanicals are also in good working order. The 2 1/4 ltr petrol engine fires up straight away and pulls it along through the 4 speed manual gearbox as it should, with decent power and no unexpected smoke. There are various invoices and receipts for general repairs and maintenance over the last 5 or so years whilst in the last keepers care. The brakes and steering all have good feel with no excessive play. The car is of course tax and MOT exempt, but as always we will give the vehicle a service and safety check upon sale.
Of course the huge appeal to this car is the unrepeatable patina! Whilst the bodywork is in complete and solid condition, there are various battle scars, dents and dinks around the entire vehicle, along with various layers of flaking bronze green paint that has clearly been hand painted and touched up over the decades. The result is an incredibly authentic looking and usable old Land Rover that attracts so much positive attention, that a fully restored model just would not deliver. The dark green full canvas tilt has roll up sides, and is in great condition. The door tops are recent so in excellent condition. They are easily removed and the windscreen can be folded flat for the full effect! It also comes with a fantastic 'Bimini' canvas roof for those summer days. 'Deluxe' style front seats have obviously been fitted in more recent times, and are in great condition and do provide an increased level of comfort (for an old Land Rover anyway!). There are also decent rear bench seats fitted with lap belts. This old land Rover just lends itself to being a family friend, for those evening and weekend trips to the pub, camping, collecting firewood, dog walks or to the beach. Maybe even a little green laning! I grew up around old land Rovers, its a way of life, they become part of your life, and I am happy my children get to have them in their lives too. We have our own 1951 series one that has been in our family over 30 years and I am very excited to have this particular series 2A in stock here at Cult Status Cars and I am sure the new owner will be just as pleased!
